The city was founded in the 12th century by German settlers. Fortunately, the Mediaeval city centre is still intact, even after two World Wars and decades of communist regime. Geographically, Sibiu is located close to the centre of Romania, in Transylvania. Getting to SibiuBy road Sibiu is well connected by road through the European motorways E 68 (Arad - Sibiu - Brasov) and E 81 (Cluj - Sibiu - Pitesti - Bucuresti). By train The cheapest way to travel to Sibiu is by train, even though there are only two direct trains from the Romanian capital, Bucharest, to Sibiu. By plane Sibiu International Airport is close to the city centre.
