city of Iasi, RomaniaIaşi is the second largest city in Romania, located in the north-east of the country. It was the capital of Moldavia for about thee centuries, until the 19th century and also the capital of the Romanian kingdom during the first World War. Iasi is now the economic, cultural and academic centre of the Romanian region of Moldavia. There are eight universities and numerous churches and the vibrant cultural life revolves around Many old buildings have been preserved although a great number were demolished during the Communist regime. The city is served by Iaşi International Airport (IAS), located 8 km to the east of the city centre. The main railway station is also close to the city centre, with direct connections to all major Romanian cities.
