city of constanta, Romania

Constanta is located in Dobrogea, an area between the Danube River and the Black Sea. The city's history goes back to 657 BC when it was the Greek controlled town of Tomis.  After Romania became a Roman province, the Romans renamed the city after emperor Constantine. Throughout history, Constanta was destroyed, fell under Byzantine and Turks control. After the Romanian War of Independence, Constanta became part of Romania, in 1877.

Constanta is the largest port at the Black Sea. The city is served by Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport.
