bucharest historical centreThe historical centre of Bucharest went through a long period of degradation, especially during the Ceausescu regime, when most houses were confiscated by the state.
Curtea Veche- former residence of Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler) After Ceausescu's regime was overthrown in 1989, the houses have been occupied mostly illegally by poor people with no means to keep them in shape or restore them. Some of them have been restored to their original features but unfortunately others now have modern features, such as double glazing, despite a law that forbids it.
The historical centre of Bucharest is now undergoing significant restoration. One of the landmarks of the historical centre is the Stavropoleos Church, built in 1724.

The famous and old brewery Caru' cu Bere is once again one of the most famous places in Bucharest. It was open in the 19th century and it used to be a meeting place for artists and writers.
Recently the building has been restored to its original features, both inside and outside and the place is again famous for its house beer and the delicious Romanian dishes on the menu.
